If you read my last email you will know we are focusing on how you feel for 2018 and beyond. So, stop making resolutions, setting goals and targets until you know how you want to FEEL!
As many of you know, I lived a very different life to the one I live today. I didn’t wake up and think I’m going to change my life forever, but I did wake up and think I DON’T want to feel how I feel anymore. I was stressed, unhealthy and generally feeling unhappy with my life. To anyone looking in, I had it all; a great job, a loving husband, great family and friends and a lovely home. I set my goals every year like everyone else about getting fit, loosing weight, making more money but it didn’t make me feel how I wanted to feel which is happy and healthy everyday.
So from that day, 1st January 2013 everything I do, say, think is about making me feel happy and healthy. Gradually the fog started to lift and today I can honestly say I am and continue to be happy and healthy. Yes, I have the usual ups and downs in my life like everyone else but overall I feel happy and healthy everyday.
So how do you know how you want to feel? It’s different for everyone and the list is endless including things like I want to feel loved, accepted, appreciated, abundant, balanced, free, happy, healthy, joy, peace, etc., etc.
More simply put, we have positive feelings and negative feelings. We want to increase the postive feelings and reduce the negative feelings. This takes practice, practice, practice until you realise 2-3 core feelings you want to feel everyday. Yes, you will experience other feelings too, generally about things outside of your control but everything else you can decide to feel positive about it or negative about it.
I work on myself everyday to achieve my feelings of being happy and healthy by making decisions that will enhance these feelings rather than not. An example, to feel healthy I need to work in a healthy way which means doing what I love as a therapist and this also makes me feel happy doing what I am so passionate about. To feel healthy I need to eat healthy which for me means being organised and knowing what I will have for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Do I snack, yes, I just ate a biscuit from the Christmas tin but I enjoyed it and I’m not going to beat myself up about it. Why should I, it’s only a biscuit. BUT, because I’m not hungry and have prepared my meals I don’t eat the whole tin in one go. Yes, this would have happened in the past.
When you analyse your feelings for a week, you’ll realise the positive feelings far outweight the negative. More on that to come…
