Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

This month’s case study focuses on Irritable Bowel Syndrome or as it is more commonly known as IBS.  IBS is a chronic condition that needs to be managed long term.  Symptoms can be quite debilitating and variable including tummy (abdominal) pain, bloating, gas and sometimes bouts of diarrhoea and/or constipation. Diet and exercise of course play a big part but if you have an energy block in the gut it needs to be released. Reflexology is very effective for most bowel/colon symptoms as it releases energy blocks and activates peristalsis (contractions of the bowel walls) to help move things along effectively. One lady in her 60’s started coming to the Just Be Clinic in November 2015 to do Reflexology for IBS, as recommended by her Cranio Sacral Therapist. She found it difficult to eat certain foods such as fruit and oranges in particular.  After just 2 treatments of reflexology and a blend of aromatherapy oils to use at home, her symptoms improved with all symptoms gone after 4 weeks.  After reviewing her progress, we moved treatments out to 2 weeks and then every 4 weeks after 2 months.  Today she comes once a month without fail for ‘her fix’ as she calls it, to maintain balance and prevent another flare up of IBS. She now eats everthing including oranges.  Even her family have commented on how much more relaxed she is around food and eating. She is also more energetic and able to do more exercise. I have to say I love to see how well this lady is today after suffering for years with IBS.  It’s so rewarding for me to know the therapies I work with are so effective and help people like this woman live a happy, healthy life. If you or someone you know has IBS, get in touch here or book now for an appointment.

Case Study – Aromatherapy for neck and shoulder pain

Case Study – Aromatherapy for neck and shoulder pain

Case Study – Aromatherapy to treat neck & should pain

If you suffer from neck and shoulder pain, you are not alone. Doctors estimate that seven out of 10 people will suffer from neck and shoulder pain at some point in their lives. One in 10 adults is hurting right now. And between 50% to 85% of people with such pain will be bothered by it again within the next five years Source: Harvard Health Publications

I see alot of women at the Just Be Clinic suffering with neck and shoulder pain.  Although some things are outside our control such as genetics and accidents, a large proportion of neck and shoulder pain is related to our lifestyle and the way that we interact with the world. Repetitive activities such as sitting at a computer, driving and lack of exercise lead to overstraining and in turn problems in your neck, shoulder or rotator cuff. The rotator cuff is a group of four tendons that attach four shoulder muscles to the upper arm, and when injured it restricts the movement of the arms and can be very painful and uncomfortable.

Essential oils for neck and shoulder pain

Aromatherapy Massage is a time-honored and trusted treatment for relieving tight and tense muscles, and together with the correct essential oils it can bring instant relief to tension, knots and muscle spasms associated with neck and shoulder pain. Aromatherapy works using essential oils that not only go skin deep but right into the blood stream and therefore warming up the muscles. Effective oils include black pepper, German chamomile, ginger, sweet marjoram, lavender or rosemary, which when added to a carrier oil to bring blissful relief to those tight, stiff and aching areas. When used this way in massage, the blended oils penetrate into muscular tissue increasing blood flow to the area, which encourages the contracted muscles to expand and relax.

Although you can effectively massage your own neck, it is much more difficult to reach the shoulders and rotary cuff area.

My Top Tip for neck and shoulder pain

At home use a compress soaked in essential oils to help release those aches and pains.  Take a cloth or paper roll and apply castor oil which has a thick consistancy and add your choice of essential oils such as Black Pepper and Lavender, a favourite of mine, or German Chamomile.  Place the compress on the affected area and place a hot water bottle or other heat source over the compress for 20 minutes.  I would suggest doing this before bedtime.  You might need to do this a few times to get the results you want.

Just Be February News

What’s happening?

Like alot of people I’ve been dragging myself through most of January with a cough and cold that just seemed to linger.  So, like many of you, my New Year is only starting now with the arrival of Spring and the sight of new life in the garden and new beginings for all of us.  So if you didn’t quite have the start you were hoping for in 2017, do not dispear.  So I started with booking myself a treatment on Monday and booking my next appointment for 4 weeks time.  I truly believe if it’s in the diary it will happen so I’m back on track with my self care and self love.  I’ll also be sharing the love with you with the return of Tops Tips and Case studies each month, so watch this space.

So for February why not be your own Valentine and let me help you and book yourself a rejuvenating treatment and get back that Just Be feeling.  Remember, all treatments are €50 including an Epsom Salt Blend to use at home or enjoy 2 treatments in one session for just €70 for the third year running. Prioritise yourself before the kids, your partner and anyone else you care for.  It’s just an hour, so book now and it will happen.  Appointments are available Tuesday 9.30 – 7pm, Wednesday 9.30am – 5pm and Thursday, 9.30am – 7pm.  If you prefer a weekend booking, Saturday, 18th February I’m back at Adare Health Foods & Wellness Centre.

The first Just Be Mindful Meditation session on every Monday is now full.  We have a lovely group of ladies and so far all are enjoying the experience and really starting to release negative behaviours and feelings and looking forward to a bright future with new habits and feelings. I’m loving the experience too so I’ve decided to do another session each week at 10am on Friday mornings starting from 3rd March.  I only have 8 places available so please let me know now if you would like to take part.
