Cancer Care Reflexology
So I recently expanded my knowledge and learning by attending a 3 day course on Cancer Care Reflexology. Here in Limerick, I am a volunteer at the Cancer Support Centre, run by the Mid West Cancer Foundation, at University Hospital Limerick.
Why did I feel the need to attend this course? Well, according ot the National Cancer Registry Ireland, every 3 minutes in Ireland someone gets a cancer diagnosis. Every hour someone dies from cancer. Incidence of cancer is growing and by
- By 2020, 1 in 2 people in Ireland will develop cancer during their lifetime.
- In Ireland 40,000 new cases of cancer or related tumours are diagnosed each year.
While these statistics are a concern, research and medical developments have improved. More emphasis is now on support and care available to those with a cancer diagnosis and their quality of life. That’s where myself and other therapists come in by providing the all important support and care.
Benefits of Cancer Care Reflexology
The Irish Cancer Society state that many people find complementary therapies such as Cancer Care Reflexology very helpful in a number of ways. As a cancer patient they may make you feel:
- More positive about yourself and your illness.
- Better able to cope with the physical side-effects of cancer and the distressing emotions cancer often brings.
- More focussed spiritual dimensions, that also aid healing.
‘With cancer survivorship numbers increasing significantly, optimising peoples’ quality of life is a particular focus of patients. This emphasis on quality of life will be central in the implementation of the Strategy.’ Simon Harris, Minister for Health, National Cancer Strategy 2017-2026.
Everyone can support and care for someone with cancer. One easy way to do this is by purchasing a loving Just Be Gift Voucher for Reflexology that can help improve that person’s quality of life. Here at the Just Be Clinic, I will support and care for our loved one and help them restore a quality life.
