I don’t know about you, but I had some amazing highs and some awful lows during lockdown so I’m thrilled to back at work and seeing you all again. I was a bit nervous about how it would go but you are so supportive and not a bit phased by the new protocols, so a massive thank you to you all.
My main concern has been my Mum but I’m over the moon to tell you she’s now settling in to her new home. She decided it was time to go to a nursing home and I really struggled with this as I always thought I would take care of her. However, it’s the best decision for her and I’m adjusting to a new routine as is she. We haven’t seen Mum for 14 weeks while she was in hospital and unlike the rest of us, Nursing Homes are still under alot of restrictions. Thankfully, I’ve been approved to take Mum to dialysis, leaving her limit of 2 visitors per week to other family members. She was so happy to be out in the car and watching the world go by. I really feel the eldery have and still are paying the real price of Covid-19.
So now it’s time to discover what our new normal is? Really think about what you missed most and what you can afford to drop. For me I missed face to face connection with people the most, so I now get that from my work, friends and family. It was very exciting when we were able to meet up and have a meal and I took full advantage. The mask wearing has become second nature to me now as I’m wearing one alot between work and when I see Mum. Jim and I have also decided we won’t be travelling abroad until we feel more confident about a vaccine or elimination of Covid-19 and like many had a staycation this year. We’re are also adapting to online activities through Zoom and other mediums.
If nothing else, this is now a great opportunity to reflect and decide what your priorities are and to only act on the things that you feel will give you joy, health and happiness. Of course, there will be challenges along the way but we all now know we can now overcome the greatest challenges. Just remember, the destination hasn’t changed, just adjust the course you take and the timeframe.
